Boeing will look to leverage its expansive industrial partnerships in South Korea to support its bid to supply its P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) to the Republic of Korea Navy (RoKN).
Matt Carreon, Boeing’s head of global sales for the P-8, told Jane’s in an interview that a key element of the P-8’s strong position in facilitating collaboration was the aircraft’s high degree of commonality with the ubiquitous Boeing 737 commercial airliner. Underscoring the popularity of this aircraft, Boeing announced in March its production of the 10,000th 737.
“The P-8 has more than 80% commonality with the 737 and that provides an opportunity for Korea’s aerospace industry to partner with Boeing in low-cost production, training, and sustainment over the life of the aircraft.
