The UK arm of Leonardo Airborne & Space Systems has been awarded contracts by the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Boeing to modify the defensive aids suite (DAS) fitted to the Army Air Corps' WAH-64 Apache Longbow AH1 attack helicopter for integration into the replacement AH-64E helicopter.
The United Kingdom is procuring new-build AH-64E helicopters to meet the requirements of the Apache Capability Sustainment Programme. In May 2017 Boeing was awarded a USD488 million Foreign Military Sales (FMS) contract to manufacture 38 AH-64E Apache Guardian standard airframes for the UK programme. A total buy of 50 AH-64Es is planned.
