Ukraine concludes Thailand’s Oplot MBT programme

Ukraine’s state-owned defence exports and industry agency UkrOboronProm has announced the finalisation of its contract, signed seven years ago, to build 49 BM Oplot main battle tanks (MBTs) for the Royal Thai Army (RTA).

UkrOboronProm said in a statement on 26 March that the contract to supply the tanks is “successfully fulfilled”. It added that the RTA has completed an evaluation of a final batch of Oplots in Ukraine before shipment to Thailand.

Jane’s understands that this final batch, which UkrOboronProm said will be delivered “soon”, consists of 13 tanks. Upon arrival the new tanks will join 36 other Oplots, which have been assigned to several RTA units including Royal Guard cavalry battalions in Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Prachinburi, and Phitsanuloke.
