Kongsberg has announced that it has established a company in Qatar to facilitate long-term technology development in the areas of defence, maritime, and digitalisation, under which it will initially deliver systems for the country’s VBCI 8x8 vehicle programme.
Alongside Qatari authorities, Kongsberg has established BK Systems, which will initially focus on the development of communications, digitalisation, and tower systems for the 490 Nexter VBCI 8x8 vehicles being delivered to the armed forces.
This is expected to be worth about NOK15 billion (USD1.93 billion) over the coming eight years, and will be the largest programme to date for Kongsberg, it says.
