On 1 March the German Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced a downselection in the MKS 180 multirole combat ship programme, eliminating the Lürssen/ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) joint venture from the competition and leaving German Naval Yards (GNY) and Dutch shipbuilder Damen bidding for the programme.
The German MoD declined to comment on the ongoing process, but Jane’s understands that the price tag of the Lürssen/TKMS offer was a significant obstacle for the MoD that eventually cost them the competition.
