The Chief of the Spanish Defence Staff (CHOD) has given the approval for the Spanish Armed Forces to pursue an upgrade programme aimed at improving the tactical communications capabilities of its army, navy, and air force.
A senior source within the CHOD confirmed with Jane’s that the decision had been made on 20 February, describing plans to move forward with the Spanish Defence General Staff’s Operational Requirements Document (ORD) for a Joint Tactical Communications Secure Radio System (SCRT).
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ignacio Simon, the SCRT will seek to provide the armed forces with a software defined radio (SDR) capability.
