President Vladimir Putin has signed the long-awaited State Armaments Programme (GPV) 2018-27, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announced in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper on 26 February.
In January the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed that a total of RUB20 trillion (USD357 billion) would be allocated for implementation of the new GPV, the SAP-2027. Of that total, RUB19 trillion will be spent on the development, procurement, and repair of military equipment, with the remaining RUB1 trillion used for the construction of related infrastructure.
The main emphasis of the new programme is the development of nuclear systems, in addition to high-precision aerospace and ground-to-ground weapons.
