The Brazilian Army has authorised its commission in Washington, DC, to amend a previous Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) in order to now modernise the service’s entire fleet of M113B armoured carriers.
Modernisation kits, provided by BAE Systems, for the last 150 vehicles will be ordered via the US Foreign Military Sales programme.
The Brazilian Army originally received 584 M113s from the United States that were modernised to the M113B standard by Motopeças. An initial 150 vehicles were modernised to the M113BR version (the local designation for M113A2 Mk1) for USD41.9 million in December 2011.
