Indian Navy to get increased access to Omani port of Duqm, says report

14 February 2018

India and Oman have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that grants the Indian Navy (IN) increased access to the Omani port of Duqm, according to an 11 February report by the Oman News Agency (ONA).

The MOU allows IN vessels to use the facilities at Duqm Port during visits “in terms of services and the use of the dry dock for maintenance”, according to the report, which was published during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the sultanate.

A joint statement issued by the two governments did not mention the port of Duqm in this regard, stating only that, “The Indian side thanked Omani side for facilitating operational visits by Indian naval ships and aircraft as well as Indian Air Force aircraft to various Omani ports and airports”.
