India accuses Pakistan of 860 ceasefire violations across disputed Kashmir border in 2017

08 February 2018

India has accused Pakistan of having committed 860 ceasefire violations in 2017 along the Line of Control (LoC) in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, adding that 31 people, including 15 Indian Army (IA) personnel, were killed as a result.

Responding to parliamentary questions Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on 7 February that the number of violations committed by the Pakistan Army (PA) across the 776 km-long LoC, which divides the disputed region of Kashmir between the nuclear-armed neighbours, was almost four times higher than that recorded in 2016 (228). The figure was also nearly six times higher than the 152 infringements documented in 2015, the minister said.
