India's MoD sets up new committee to expedite military modernisation

08 February 2018

India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has instituted a 13-member advisory committee to monitor and expedite capital acquisition projects over the next six months for the military’s long-delayed modernisation programmes.

In a statement issued on 7 February the MoD announced that the Raksha Mantri’s Advisory Committee on MoD Capital Projects – also known as RMCOMP – would undertake an independent review of all current modernisation programmes worth over INR5 billion (USD78 million) and propose measures to advance them.

This would include the entire gamut of procurement categories specified in the MoD’s Defence Procurement Procedure-2016, including ‘Buy and Make’, ‘Buy and Make (Indian)’ and the Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured grouping, among others.
