Israel negotiating for IMI rocket systems

Israel Military Industries (IMI) is talking with the Israeli Ministry of Defense about supplying surface-to-surface rocket systems, the company told Jane's on 5 February, following media reports that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will form a new unit to operate the company’s EXTRA system.

The Hebrew daily Yediot Ahronot was the first to report that Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman has instructed the IDF to create a new unit that will initially operate the EXTRA, which uses 306 mm surface-to-surface missiles with a range of 150 km.

The unit would later be equipped with longer range rockets with a range of 300 km, Yediot Ahronot reported.
