The US Marine Corps (USMC) has been considering adding an assistant squad leader to handle unmanned systems and situational awareness, and is now also mulling adding a ‘technology manager’ as well, according to Lieutenant General Robert Walsh, deputy commandant for combat development and integration.
During 6 February remarks at an Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) defence conference, Lt Gen Walsh said he hopes that adding technology manager is not necessary, and instead the corps can get unmanned systems operating better together so marines do not need to work as much in handling and operating those systems.
Still, he said the USMC is trying to figure out whether it needs that manager or not.
