State-owned PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) is moving forward with several major collaborative programmes in line with Jakarta’s growing emphasis on supporting local industrial involvement in defence procurement.
Speaking at the Singapore Airshow 2018 on 6 February, Arie Wibowo, PTDI’s director of production, said the company expects to progress during 2018 projects to develop an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with Turkey and to become involved in Indonesia’s anticipated programmes to procure Airbus A400M transport aircraft and Sukhoi Su-35 fighter aircraft.
Wibowo also confirmed that PTDI remains involved in the programme with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to develop the next-generation fighter aircraft – the Korean Fighter Xperiment/Indonesia Fighter Xperiment (KFX/IFX) – despite growing concerns about Indonesia’s ability to partly fund the programme.
