Ukraine opens support facility in Bangladesh

31 January 2018

Ukraine has opened a facility in Bangladesh to support the local operation of Russian-made military helicopters, Ukraine’s state-owned defence industrial group UkrOboronProm has announced.

According to a press release published by UkrOboronProm on 31 January, the new facility has been created by Ukrainian firms Ukrinmash, which provides export and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, and Aviakon, which specialises in helicopter MRO.

UkrOboronProm said the service centre would support the Bangladesh Air Force’s (BAF’s) fleets of Mil Mi-17 (Mi-8) medium multirole helicopters. The BAF is thought to operate about 30 Mi-17s, which have been acquired from Russia in several batches since the 1990s.
