Sweden has decided to buy back the port in Fårösund on Gotland under an agreement signed by the Swedish Fortifications Agency (SFA) on 15 January, the agency has said. The SEK20 million (USD2.5 million) deal must be approved by the government by 16 April. The port will officially be taken over on 30 April 2018. After regaining control over the port, investments will be required to bring it back to the standards and requirements of the Swedish Army.
This will give the Swedish government control over two ports on Gotland: Kappelshamn on the northern part of the island, and Fårösund on the eastern shore of Gotland across the straits from Fårö.
