On 22 January the Ecuadorian Army commissioned a single Airbus Helicopters H125 light utility helicopter, the first of two such aircraft that Ecuadorian Army Aviation is to receive.
The aircraft are being provided under an insurance compensation scheme, signed with Airbus Helicopters in November 2017, to compensate for the loss of a single AS 550C3 that crashed in 2015.
According to Airbus Helicopters, delivery of the second H125 is scheduled for mid-2018.
The same day, the army commissioned an SA330 Puma helicopter configured for transport, rescue, and medical evacuation duties. The Ecuadorian Ministry of Defence said the aircraft was refurbished and brought back to operational condition by Army Aviation technicians.
