30 January 2018

The Royal Canadian Navy’s (RCN) interim support ship, MV Asterix , completed trials, was formally accepted by the Department of National Defence, and entered full operational service with the RCN.

Asterix concluded a period of sea trials that included replenishment at sea and aviation operations with Royal Canadian Air Force CH-148 Cyclone helicopters. The 'Project Resolve' vessel will provide support the RCN until two future Protecteur-class Joint Support Ship vessels are delivered in the early 2020s.

Asterix is built by Davie Shipbuilding and will be operated by Federal Fleet Services with a mixed RCN and civilian crew.
