Escribano, SIMA ink deal to arm Peru’s amphibious vessel

30 January 2018

Spanish company Escribano Mechanical and Engineering will supply defensive weapons for BAP Pisco , a Makassar-class landing platform under construction by the Peruvian shipyard Servicios Industriales de la Marina (SIMA).

Escribano confirmed to Jane’s on 30 January that a contract with SIMA was signed on 20 December 2017. The defence system is called SCAMO and, according to Escribano, consists of four 12.7 mm remote weapon systems (RWS), two 30 mm RWS, and a surveillance system. The deal includes training and a support centre.

The company said it met with SIMA representatives at the end of January and a first delivery of the turrets should occur by March, when the Peruvian shipyard plans to have Pisco completed.
