India issues RFI for aerial refuelling aircraft for third time

India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has invited responses by 30 March from three overseas manufacturers regarding the supply of six aerial refuelling aircraft for the Indian Air Force (IAF) after two earlier attempts to acquire the platforms were scrapped.

In a request for information (RFI) despatched on 25 January to Airbus, Boeing, and Ilyushin, the MoD in New Delhi specified a requirement for tankers capable of dispensing two types of fuel at altitudes of 6,000 m. Capable of taking off from runways located at altitudes of 2,743 m, the proposed tankers will also need to have an operational range of 1,500 n miles (2,778 km), the RFI stated.
