IARPA eyes defence applications for AI efforts

The US Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) is working on several projects in video analysis and other areas of artificial intelligence (AI) that could have military applications, according to an organisation official.

IARPA, which sits within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), is the intelligence equivalent of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Like DARPA, it focuses on future technologies that could affect operations within its domain.

The ODNI integrates intelligence capabilities and operations across the different parts of the US intelligence community, including the Army, Air Force and Navy, as well as the Defense Intelligence Agency.
