Czech Defence Minister Karla Slechtova has ordered a full review of an unsigned CZK3.6 billion (USD173,000) contract for eight IAI Elta Systems ELM-2084 multi-mission radar (MMR) units selected by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) on 14 December 2016.
IAI Elta Systems was selected by Slechtova's predecessor and fellow ANO Party member former defence minister Martin Stropnicky to fulfil an urgent requirement for a 3D mobile air defence radar (MADR) for the air defence element of the Army of the Czech Republic (ACR).
“I have non-publicly available information that has led me to conclude that I must take additional steps which include determining whether the [ELM-2084] radar is interoperable with the NATO air defence architecture; to have legal experts analyse the details of the contract; and to request an analysis of the contract from the [Czech] Foreign Ministry,” Slechtova told media on 16 January.
