Zelenodolsk Shipyard laid the keel for the Russian Navy’s sixth Bykov-class (Project 22160) corvette, Nikolay Sipyagin , on 13 January.
Designed by Severnoye design bureau, the new class is primarily intended for maritime security tasks including counter-piracy and counter-trafficking operations.
The class has an endurance of 60 days, a speed of 30 kt, and a cruising range of 6,000 n miles. Its modular construction allows for upgrading the weapon fit to suit combat missions.
The corvettes are fitted with an upgraded AK-176MA 76.2 mm naval gun mounted afore. The AK-176MA features doubled accuracy of fire and a more than two-fold increase of guidance accuracy.
