US government approves potential Harpoon, RAM missiles FMS for Mexico

16 January 2018

The US State Department approved a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of six Boeing RGM-84L Harpoon Block II surface-to-surface missiles (SSM), 23 Raytheon Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) Block 2 surface-to-air missiles (SAM), and six Mk 54 Mod 0 lightweight torpedoes requested by the Mexican government, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced on 5 January.

The weapon systems are intended for use on board the Mexican Navy's first Damen SIGMA 10514 long-range patrol vessel (POLA). The proposed sale would support US national security by strengthening Mexico’s maritime capabilities.

The announcement is the first time official information has been divulged on the potential weapon suite for the POLA, which is currently undergoing construction in the Netherlands and Mexico.
