Surface Navy 2018: US Navy’s USV fleet ramps up testing

12 January 2018

The US Navy (USN) has a number of unmanned surface vehicle (USV) efforts planned for 2018 including the continued testing of unmanned mine countermeasure (MCM) platforms and of a small optionally manned craft for use by naval special forces.

The USN has begun builder’s trials in Florida with Textron’s Unmanned Influence Sweeping System (UISS). Up until today, the system has recorded more than 360 hours of testing. Once the builder’s trials are complete, Textron will hand the system over to the USN for development testing.

UISS is a navy MCM that serves as the platform for the mine hunting sonar.
