Bulgaria seeks to solve MiG-29 logistics issues with Russia

12 January 2018

On 29 December 2017, Bulgaria’s Commission for Protection of Competition (CPC) rejected the request by Ukrainian state-owned company Ukrinmash, part of the UkrOboronProm conglomerate, to halt the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD’s) single-source tender inviting Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RSK MiG) to provide logistical support for Bulgaria's 15 MiG-29 fighters.

The CPC decision is not final and Ukrinmash lodged an appeal with the Supreme Administrative Court on 2 January, the court announced on its website on 11 January. The appeal was expected by Bulgarian Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov, who told media on 28 December that “the process will be completed within two months, after which negotiations with RSK MiG will proceed”.
