Pentagon budget 2018: Officials request budget relief for munitions programmes

The Pentagon has requested specific programme exceptions in case it must continue to operate under a restrictive stop-gap budget, and the list is especially heavy on the sort of munitions that have been spent during ramped-up campaigns in Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

Congress passed another extension of a Continuing Resolution (CR) budget on 21 December to keep the federal government funded through 19 January, and included a big addition for missile defence activities. US President Donald Trump the next day enacted this third CR budget to continue funding the government in fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) at FY 2017’s levels.
