Thales certifies Omnisys for sonar transducer production

Thales has qualified its Brazilian subsidiary Omnisys for the in-country production of sonar transducers, the company has announced.

The transducers produced by Omnisys are intended for the Thales Underwater Systems Kingklip medium-frequency hull-mounted sonar which Jane’s understands is being proposed in relation to the Brazilian Navy’s Tamandare-class corvette programme.

Thales acquired Omnisys in 2011 and announced plans in 2015 to open an acoustic technology centre operating in Brazil under the subsidiary company.

The ‘Centre of Excellence’ was established in January 2016 with funding of BRL20 million (USD6 million.)
