GE has signed a strategic partnership with Tata group to manufacture commercial engine components, which the two companies say could lead on to military engine and aircraft system opportunities in the future.
The main deal covers the manufacture of CFM International LEAP aircraft engine components in India for customers worldwide, the companies announced on 14 December, with the intention to also pursue various military prospects in country.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and GE Aviation will together manufacture, assemble, integrate, and test aircraft components, while a new centre of excellence will be built to provide aircraft manufacturing in India.
“We look forward to working with GE to build more expertise and strengthen India’s defence manufacturing capabilities,” Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons – the parent company of TASL – says.
