18 December 2017

Thales has secured a deal to acquire digital security company Gemalto, which will bring together the expertise the two have in this domain to form a new Digital Security global business unit.

Thales announced on 18 December that it was acquiring the company at EUR51 (USD59.90) per share, which Thales claims will add in excess of EUR3 billion of revenue to its digital business sales, and contribute to a strategy from the company to boost its digital offerings.

“The acquisition of Gemalto marks a key milestone in the implementation of Thales’ strategy,” Patrice Caine, Thales’ chairman and CEO, says. “Together with Gemalto’s management, we have big ambitions based on a shared vision of the digital transformation of our industries and customers.”
