Japan, UK to expand technology collaboration

Japan and United Kingdom will enhance defence equipment and technology ties as part of their expanding security relationship, Japanese Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera said following the two countries’ foreign and defence ministerial meeting, which took place in London on 14 December.

In a transcript published by the Japanese Ministry of Defence (MoD), Onodera said after his meetings with UK Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson that the two officials had agreed to progress existing military technology collaboration programmes – including the co-development of an air-to-air missile – as well as explore new areas of co-operation with a view to undertaking future joint defence production activities.
