Taiwan’s NCSIST sets up new company to support local defence manufacturing

05 December 2017

Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) has established a new company to engage with domestic private-sector firms in manufacturing defence products for the Taiwanese armed forces and for international markets.

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) was quoted by the state-run Central News Agency (CNA) as saying on 4 December that the new joint venture (JV) company has been set up in partnership with a private-sector investor. The identity of the JV and the investor was not announced.

NCSIST – a military research and development agency owned by the MND – also confirmed the development on its website and said the creation of the JV is permitted under legislation allowing it to “invest in an existing or newly established company based on the needs of its operations”.
