04 December 2017

Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has confirmed plans to establish a company dedicated to providing maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.

Speaking at a press conference on 1 December, KAI’s newly appointed CEO Kim Jo-won said the MRO subsidiary would be officially launched in early 2018. The new company will be based in South Gyeongsang province near to KAI’s headquarters in Sacheon.

In comments reported by the Yonhap news agency, Kim said, “The [South Korean] transport ministry is expected to give permission for an MRO company in January, and once it gets approval KAI will set up the company.”

Kim, who was appointed CEO in late October, said the MRO subsidiary would pursue major commercial aerospace contracts as well as military programmes.
