Islamic State attacks in Aden indicate resurgence of capability to target security forces in southern Yemen

On 14 November, the so-called Aden-Abyan wilaya (province) of the Islamic State mounted a suicide attack targeting a Yemeni security forces’ camp in the southern city of Aden.

The group issued a statement on the same day claiming that a militant, identified as Abu Hajar al-Adani, had targeted the operations room of the UAE-backed Security Belt forces in the Mansoura district of Aden, “totally destroying the target and killing and wounding all those inside”. According to Yemeni media, the militant used a suicide vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (SVBIED) to target the building, killing six soldiers and injuring dozens more.
