- Sweden has said it intends to procure the Patriot PAC-3 air defence system
- A final decision on the procurement is to be made next year
The Swedish government announced its intention to acquire the Raytheon Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) air and missile defence system on 7 November. The procurement, for four fire units of the latest and most up-to-date configuration of the PAC-3 system, will reportedly have a price tag of USD1.2 billion, according to news reports from both Stockholm and Washington.
The official Swedish government announcement stated that, “based on this tender and the decision of the Riksdag [Swedish Parliament] on the proposal to acquire a new medium-range air defence system in the 2018 budget bill, the government will make a final decision on the acquisition during 2018”.
