Defence & Security 2017: Chinese shipbuilder to expand in Thailand

07 November 2017

The China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) is looking to expand its presence in Thailand to support the Royal Thai Navy’s (RTN’s) acquisition of S26T diesel-electric submarines.

Officials from the China Shipbuilding and Offshore International Company (CSOC) – the international trading arm of CSIC – told Jane’s on 7 November at the Defence & Security 2017 show in Bangkok that CSIC is expected to open a facility within the country in 2018.

This facility would be focused on providing engineering support to the RTN and also to pursue in-country sales, CSOC officials said. State-owned CSIC currently has no office in the country.
