DM98 practice round makes Bundeswehr debut

07 November 2017

The German Army is due to receive its first Rheinmetall DM98 practice ammunition for its Leopard 2 main battle tanks by the end of the year, the company announced on 3 November.

This is part of a Bundeswehr order placed in September for 10,000 DM98 rounds.

Rheinmetall expects to receive an order for a further 3,200 DM98 rounds at the beginning of 2018, for delivery during the first quarter.

The order for the 13,200 practice rounds is worth EUR24.7 million (USD28.6 million).

The DM98 replaces the DM18 practice round. Rheinmetall says it has above average accuracy even at ranges greater than 2,000 m, adding that it has a tracer function for use in all light conditions.
