Portugal to order mini UAVs

The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) will issue a request for proposals for the acquisition of mini unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the Portuguese Army by the end of 2017, a military source told Jane’ s. A contract is expected to be signed during the first quarter of 2018, the source added.

In May 2016, the Portuguese Ministry of National Defence announced the intention to procure 12 mini UAVs worth up to EUR6 million (USD7 million) as part of the Military Programming Law 2015–2026. The aim is to provide battalion-sized units with an intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) capability by 2021.
