The Philippines took delivery of a shipment of Russian small arms and equipment on 25 October, signed further procurement contracts and military-technical co-operation agreements.
Meeting with Russian counterparts on the side-lines of the ASEAN Defence Minister Meeting (ADMM) and ADMM-Plus in Clark, Pampanga, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Defence Minister Delfin Lorenzana toured the Russian destroyer Admiral Panteleyev in Manila, before witnessing the handover of equipment.
The shipment consisted of a donation by Russia of 5,000 AK-74M assault rifles, as well as one million rounds of ammunition, helmets, and 20 Ural-4320 6x6 trucks.
In addition, the Philippines Department of National Defense reported that representatives from the Russian and Filipino governments signed a military-technical co-operation agreement, covering research, production support, and potential personnel exchanges and joint training.
