Opposition rejects proposed electoral reforms, increasing likelihood of election boycott and protests in Kenyan capital’s business district

Kenya’s opposition National Super Alliance (NASA) on 28 September suspended talks with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on reforms to facilitate the re-running of the presidential election on 26 October.

NASA stated that opposition supporters would resume protests in the capital, Nairobi, on 3 October. NASA leader Raila Odinga argued this was because legal amendments tabled by the ruling Jubilee party would “turn Kenya into a one-party state”. NASA legislators have since boycotted parliament.
