A new battle management system (BMS) upgrade developed by Indra and Thales is expected to start integration into Spanish Army units from early 2018 and be fully operational within two years.
The latest BMS-Lince ET [Ejercito de Tierra or Army] will be fitted in “all the army’s vehicles”, an Indra spokesman said.
That will range from the fleet of Leopard 2 main battle tanks (MBTs) down to the new Vehículo de Exploración y Reconocimiento Terrestre (VERT) scout vehicle.
The BMS-Lince ET will gradually replace the original system that only made its international debut with the first foreign deployment of Spanish Leopard 2s along with Pizarro armoured infantry fighting vehicles when they joined other NATO forces in Latvia in June.
