DSEI 2017: IAI unveils maritime version of Harop loitering munition

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) unveiled a new maritime version of its Harop long-endurance loitering munition at Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2017 in London.

The weapon can be launched from a variety of ships, ranging from offshore patrol vessels to naval frigates, and can be employed against coastal targets as well as targets at sea.

Technological adjustments for the Maritime Harop include a launcher with a new maritime configuration and an adapted communication antenna.

“We have combined the characteristics of a tactical drone with the capabilities of a guided missile in a weapon that requires a very small footprint on deck – there is no need for a landing deck or a catapult,” Oren Guter, business development manager for EEZ and naval programmes, told Jane’s.
