Belgian court says Turkish PKK group is war belligerent, not terrorist organisation

15 September 2017

Belgium’s Court of Appeal ruled on 14 September that Turkey’s Kurdistan Workers’ Party (Partiya Karkerên Kurdistan: PKK) is a belligerent, saying it “cannot be considered” a terrorist group. “The aim of PKK is not to terrorise the population” but to fight for the rights of the Kurds, it said.

The decision follows appeals by the Turkish state and a Belgian prosecutor against Kurdish TV in Turkey and 36 Kurdish politicians.
