It was announced at IDEX that the United Arab Emirates has placed an order with NIMR Automotive covering the supply of 400 8x8 armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) in a number of configurations.
These include an infantry fighting vehicle (IFV), which will have a crew of three consisting of commander, gunner and driver and will carry eight dismounts. The armoured personnel carrier (APC) will have a crew of two consisting of driver and commander/gunner and will carry 10 dismounts.
The vehicle being shown at IDEX is fitted with the complete turret already on the BMP-3 and a small batch of Patria Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMVs) used by the UAE.
The new 8x8 vehicle will be powered by a Caterpillar diesel developing 600hp coupled to an Allison 4500 fully automatic transmission.
This will give the vehicle a maximum road speed of 105km/h and a road range of 700km. It will have a high level of cross-country mobility, as all wheels will be fitted with independent coil spring suspension. A central tyre inflation system will be fitted and the Michelin XZL 14.00 x R20 tyres will have run-flat inserts.
The gross vehicle weight is being quoted as 28 tonnes, but it will have a stretch potential to up to 30 tonnes.
