First hit [IDEX17D3]

21 February 2017

In a firefight, it is best to hit a target at the first shot. Renowned Belgian firearms manufacturer FN Herstal (Stand 07-C17) has just introduced its latest FN fire control unit (FCU) for a range of 40mm launchers.

The FN FCU Mk3 significantly increases the hit probability of the 40mm grenade system in defence and security operations. Not only does FN retain the benefits of earlier versions, such as fast target acquisition and automatically adjusted point of aim, but the company has now added a host of enhancements.

Besides an improved laser rangefinder for better accuracy, a larger aiming window ensures easier target acquisition. The new FCU also has automatic sight adjustment for lateral drift, one-hand activated lever and a quick detach base through a Picatinny-type interface.

It is also smaller with reduced power consumption.

This 3rd generation FCU thus conforms to FN Herstal's motto of 'Enhancing capability through technology'. According to a company statement, it can be fitted onto a wider range of under-barrel and standalone launchers.

Because the FN FCU/ user interface remains unchanged, no additional training is required for users of previous models. Firing cables supplied with earlier models, can also be easily transferred to the new version.
