VKS chief sets new IOC date of 2017 for Sukhoi T-50

30 December 2015

Colonel General Viktor Bondarev, the commander-in-chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS), has announced a new date for the initial acceptance into service (effectively initial operational capability, or IOC) of the Sukhoi T-50 PAK-FA next-generation fighter, pushing the aircraft's introduction out by an additional year.

The announcement came during a 27 December broadcast on the Rossiya 24 channel.

"In 2017 we plan to already have received this aircraft in service," he stated. The goal of having this kind of new platform is "to reduce the workload of the pilot and to permit in the process of one flight the completion of several missions in air-to-ground and air-to-air profiles", he added.
