DSEI 2015: C-2 back in testing and on schedule, says KHI

17 September 2015

Flight tests of the C-2 transport aircraft have resumed and it is in on course to finish its development programme on schedule in March 2016, Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) officials said at DSEI 2015 in London.

Testing of the C-2 was suspended in July 2014 when a rear door blew off during pressurisation testing. The resulting delay pushed the C-2 programmes cost up by JPY40 billion (USD332 million) to JPY260 billion (USD2.2 billion) and delayed service entry to 2020 at the earliest.

KHI officials in London said that no new problems had appeared following the resumption of testing and noted that the Japanese Ministry of Defense had assigned funding to purchase one aircraft in its fiscal year 2016 budget request, released on 31 August.
