Brazil receives last VBTP-MR Guarani from initial order

The Brazilian Army on 9 December received the last 18 of an initial 128 VBTP-MR Guarani 6x6 amphibious wheeled armoured vehicles ordered from Iveco Latin America, as the programme continues with more orders.

Previously 50 vehicles were distributed to the 15th Mechanized Infantry Brigade and the Armoured Vehicles Training Centre (CIBld), and the remaining 78 are due to be supplied to the 15th Mechanized Infantry Brigade and eventually to other units.

The 128 units were ordered as part of a letter of intent signed in December 2009 for 2,044 vehicles, and of these 16 vehicles were acquired in December 2007 as pilot batch; 86 units for Mechanized Cavalry doctrinal experimentation (LED) were contracted in August 2012, and a group of 26 similar vehicles was ordered in December 2013.
