07 November 2014

Airbus Helicopters (Hall D, Stand 043) has confirmed an order under which the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) will receive 11 AS565 MBe Panther shipborne helicopters for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions.

The contract, negotiated through PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Hall D, Stand 061), marks the first sale of an AS565 variant optimised for ASW. Deliveries are scheduled within three years.

According to Airbus Helicopters, the 11 AS565 MBe helicopters will be manufactured in France and then delivered to PT Dirgantara Indonesia under a strategic industrial agreement. PT Dirgantara Indonesia will then outfit the aircraft with mission equipment in-country prior to delivery to the TNI-AL.

Selected mission equipment includes the L-3 Ocean Systems Helicopter Long-Range Active Sonar (HELRAS) active dipping sonar, and a launch system for lightweight torpedoes.

Philippe Monteux, head of South East Asia & Pacific region at Airbus Helicopters, said the Panther had now become “one of the world’s most capable light/medium anti-submarine warfare platforms, with an advanced ASW suite and the capability to operate from corvettes or small frigates”.
