Stitch in modern times [AAD141]

Making tents for the most discerning international customers is not as straight-forward as one might imagine.

Three decades as a supplier to numerous United Nations bodies and non-governmental organisations led Canvas & Tent (Hangar 3, Stand A8) to further improve its manufacturing processes. Canvas & Tent is the first tent company in Africa to implement the Eton system. Coupled with a new factory layout of 22,500m², the Eton system increases productivity while improving quality.

The hanging production system cuts throughput time and work-in-progress, and provides a better overview of the production process.

In addition to the Eton machine, four welding machines were acquired to enable the company to become more competitive in the manufacture and supply of PVC, PE and PU products. With welding speeds of up to 20m/min, Canvas & Tent is able to save considerably and therefore provide the consumer with a quality product at a competitive rate. All canvas and tent products are South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and ISO 9001:2008 accredited to meet the requirements of the company’s clientele, which comprises local and international military and humanitarian entities.

Canvas & Tent is a member of the South African Technical Textiles Cluster.
